SCLA Player/Program Eligibility Guidelines

SCLA REGISTRATION AND PLAYER ASSIGNMENT

SCLA player registration is determined by the player’s home address. “Home address” means the primary place of residence. Home address does not include the address of a relative or friend.

For the SCLA lacrosse clubs of Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Agoura, Westlake (United Lacrosse), and Simi Valley, the town boundary is the local high school zone as determined by your local school district. For example, if your home address is zoned for Westlake High School, your family will play for United Lacrosse.

For the SCLA lacrosse clubs of San Fernando Vipers Lacrosse, Blackhawks Lacrosse and Tribe Lacrosse, the registration boundaries are determined by their local region.

If the player’s home address changes to that of another Town club, the player may continue to play for their original Participating Town or transfer to the new Participating Town. Once that choice is made, it cannot be changed during their SCLA career.

Waiver Players / Waiver Requests: All players who reside within the boundaries of an SCLA Participating Town but wish to register with a neighboring SCLA Participating Town must request a representative of the neighboring town program to submit a “Waiver Request” for review and approval by the SCLA. Waiver requests are generally not accepted; except in extenuating circumstances. SCLA towns are obligated to direct players who have registered in error to the proper SCLA town program.

Waiver Requests Timeline & Process: Official Program Rosters and Waiver Requests will be submitted to the SCLA Registration Committee prior to Jan 8th. For requests after January 8th the SCLA Registration Committee will review and respond to requests by Friday of the week following the date the request is received by the SCLA. The committee will review all waiver requests and have decisions back to each program by Jan 15th. The Waiver request must include: Parent name(s), Child name; Child age; Child school they attend; Home address; prior SCLA history (if any), and Reason for waiver request.

At-Large Players: All players who do not reside within the boundaries of an SCLA Participating Town shall be considered “At-Large” players. At-Large players may be assigned to an SCLA Participating Town within close geographical proximity to their residence. Factors for At-Large placement may include carpool support, school location, etc. SCLA Participating Town’s must notify the SCLA Registration Committee when made aware of an At-Larger Player prior to accepting registration.

At-Large Player Request Timeline & Process: Official Program Rosters and At-Large Requests will be submitted to the SCLA Registration Committee prior to Jan 8th. The committee will review all At-Large requests and have decisions back to each program by Jan 15th. For requests after January 8th the SCLA Registration Committee will review and respond to requests by Friday of the week following the date the request is received by the SCLA. The At-Large request must include; Parent name(s), Child name; Child age; Child school they attend; Home address; and Reason for the At-Large request.

SCLA Player Assignment: The SCLA Board shall have final authority over team placement for At-Large and Waiver Players. The SCLA Board shall be permitted to obtain and rely on information and recommendations from SCLA Division Directors, Participating Town Presidents and Representatives with respect to individual players, and the bearing and impact of the player assignment on Participating Towns. The primary role of SCLA registration rules are to promote safe, balanced, and competitive games.

Program Penalties: There is a financial fine of $1,000 for programs (to be paid immediately) in each instance a program has a player play in a league game for which they are ineligible due to registration related matters. Players who play for the incorrect team or program potentially forfeit post-season eligibility for the player (not the team).
